Omg no, you are wrong on so many levels and as a linguist this makes me ache something terrible. In my linguistics class in undergrad, we actually made fun of people who think like you along these lines and for good reason, because you are wholly ignorant and are choosing to spin narratives about things and fields which you know completely nothing about yet pretend you do.
She: This word evolved naturally from Old English from seo/heo which were just words to refer to feminine-female people evolving from Proto-Germanic words meaning ‘that/there’. He as a word evolved from the same ideas but Proto-Germanic words for ‘this/here’. Your idea of “patriarchal language” further falls apart when you compare this part of English to other Germanic languages, of which English is related, the words in German for he and she are “er” and “sie”, completely unrelated. So it is by clear happenstance, not some patriarchal conspiracy that the words “he” and “she” in English have similar form.
Woman: Oh god this one always gets my goat when people go for this one. Man did not used to mean “male”, man used to mean “humanity/human being”, the old words in Old English for male adult person and female adult person were “werman” and “wifman” respectively, we can see this relation in words like werewolf and wife as being the remnants of the base “wer-” and the base “wif-”. Woman evolved phonologically from the word “wifman” by natural processes where the ‘f’ sound dropped and the ‘i’ became lax. Man dropped its “wer” stem for reasons mostly unknown but I can guarantee have nothing to do with “patriarchy” because phonological change has no basis in that.
Female: Male and Female actually come etymologically from two completely different words. Male comes from Old French “masle” which meant masculine, while Female came from Old French as well “femella” which meant young woman. This is another case, just like he and she, where the words coincidentally ended up looking similar without having any direct correlation in historical linguistic processes to make them as such.
Human: This word etymologically derives from Proto-Indo-European “ghomon” which means earthly being as opposed to heavenly being which would refer to gods. You have some small glimmer of hope here in that the word does eventually branch off into the word for “man” in some languages but this is still too small of a precedent to base any conspiratorial thinking like you are doing off of.
Person: This one offends me the most, simply because I love the fuck out of Etruscan language and your continued ignorance just irks me at this point. Person derives from “persona” from Latin which meant the same meaning, which ultimately derived from “phersu” Etruscan for ‘mask’ as Etruscans would often have theatre performers use masks to give identity to the performers. So never once did “person” have any meaning to do with “son”. So yes, this IS the “natural order” or language.
Please never proselytise your faulty ideology and misandrist thinking within speaking about word origins and morphology again, as unless you actually do fact checking, I will school the everloving hell out of you, stay in your lane.
*deep breath* Ok. So. The origins of these words are certainly worth knowing HOWEVER the idea that linguistic evolution happens in some sort of vacuum outside society and culture is utterly bizarre. Obviously the language is influenced by patriarchy because language is culture.
Furthermore, the idea of singular origins for the current forms of words is simply inaccurate. Much of this interpretation of the history of language is just that: interpretation. The etymologies of these terms are complicated and intertwined. You’ll find linguists attribute the term “man” to a number of root languages and terms (Hebrew: Adam; Greek: Anthropos; etc.) that always had the meaning of both male individual and all humans, even when you had other specific prefixes or terms for man and woman (like wer and wif/wo).
The societal perception of s/he, wo/man, fe/male is also *how those things came to be codified in current form,* regardless of their origins. If you’ve got words referring to opposites evolving from different forms to be more similar, that’s not a coincidence, that is language becoming more efficient and easy to understand. This is why any women’s studies 101 student can see that the words seem obviously connected. They are, they evolved together.
On top of which, the claim of specialized knowledge in linguistics is a bit of a smokescreen. Language is something where the perception of the speakers is the thing itself. Scholastic understanding of the etymological *origin* of terms has very little to do with how language is used *currently* to reflect power dynamics in society.
It is not irrelevant that one can drop wer and not wo. It is not irrelevant that the simpler form without a faux prefix always means male and/or everyone.
The idea that someone is a linguist and believes all linguistic change is “coincidence” and also believes anyone claiming there are cultural reasons behind those changes is buying into “conspiracies” is laughable.
That someone can use the neologism “misandrist” in a post claiming linguistic change has not been driven by sexism would be more laughable if people didn’t buy it.
That said, I totally don’t get where the person/son thing is coming from.
Hey all. I find these terms to be incredibly useful, but I was thinking they could be further expanded to encompass more than just being triggered. So, here are my proposed ‘expanded’ definitions of the terms. They’re meant to be less specific yet still keep in mind the terms original definition and not drastically change it.
Destresexual: When your ability to experience sexual attraction is somehow affected by trauma and/or feelings caused by said trauma.
Destreromantic: When your ability to experience romantic attraction is somehow affected by trauma and/or feelings caused by said trauma.

When exomemories influence your gender in some way. Initially intended to be used by plural people, although anyone who has a spiritual belief in reincarnation can use this term. Can be used in combination with any other gender terms. For example: “Nonbinary + reinic masc” would describe a person who is nonbinary and feels some form of masculine due to exomemories.

A specific type of genderfluidity (condigender) that takes the concept of programming arrays and applies it to having multiple genders. As implied by the term itself, if you identify with this term, you have an array of genders at your disposal that you can individually call for specific situations. These situations can be anything, but one example could be that the person has a ‘code’ in their genderarray to use a specific gender around their family, and another one they use around their friends. It does not have to center around other people though; genders can be called during any situation depending on the specific genderarray and ‘code’ a person has for it.
An important aspect of genderarray is the reliability of the code: the gender used in one situation typically doesn’t change (although it’s not impossible for it to). To return to the previous example, if your genderarray calls for you to be a specific gender around your family, there is a strong sense of stability in that not changing: the value is set. The fluidity of the genderarray only occurs when another gender is called.

A flag I made for a term I just coined, Honeyobstric! It’s a gender that is closely related to/feels like a minecraft honey block! It is sticky and sweet, with a lot in common with bees and nature, as well as being very stable and home-y.
Lemon gender is a gender that is bitter and guarded with an outerlayer. This gender is more bitter than other citrus genders and holds bitterness towards exclusionism. Those with this gender may be on the fruit or citrus spectrum.
My attempt at feminine trans man / masculine trans woman flags, respectively. (These are also free for feminine transmasc, and masculine transfem to use.)
I based these off of both the trans flag itself, and also, the more commonly used transmasculine and transfeminine flags I’ve seen.
The idea is that the blue, or pink, stripe in the middle represents the ‘core gender’ of the person, which in turn is man or woman. Then the ‘outer shell’ is feminine or masculine, represented by two stripes of pink or blue. Two stripes of varying saturation are used to represent how femininity and masculinity can differ from person to person.
The middle stripe is ‘shielded’ by two white stripes of solidarity: to show that feminine trans men and masculine trans women should be respected and protected by all of their siblings within the trans community.

from what i could find, it can be, but doesn’t have to be! using an ‘unexpected’ pronoun may refer to someone who is pnc, but if we look at this post, some examples of transpronominal (or crosspronominal/alterpronominal) people would be:
he/him women
she/her men
he/him or she/her nonbinary people
anyone who uses pronouns aside from he/him or she/her
so the first two examples are pnc, the third can be (depends on if the specific nonbinary person also identifies as male/female and/or masc/fem), and the last refers to how the average person does not expect someone to use they/them or neopronouns. i’d say that crosspronominal is an umbrella term for pnc folks and those who use they/them or neopronouns.
I had put transpronomial as a synonym but I think it specifically means pronominally transgender, therefore, it includes someone who was assigned she/her and now uses he/him, for example. If the person is a he/him binary trans man or she/her binary trans woman, they wouldn’t be crosspronomial. And just as transgender isn’t essentially GNC, transpronoun isn’t necessarily PNC.

A gender that feels cold and sweet much like ice cream. This gender may be soft or hard to the touch depending on the type of ice cream or may be fluid and change types frequently. The flavor may change and be very fluid.

Abyssvastus: A masculine gender that presents neutral to feminine. This gender is heavily related to cryptids, the vastness of the ocean and space, abandoned arcades, ominous and/or cryptic music, empty forests at night, being alone, the noise and scent of heavy rainstorms, the smell of salt and mysteries. This gender feels almost endless and absorbs other genders and their meanings into its vastness.

I think handsomegender sounds wonderful, and I’ve taken the liberty of choosing colors I personally associate with being handsome: turquoise, blue, bluish-purple, magenta, and gold. Both genders’ names come from latin. “Deus” meaning god, and sol and luna meaning sun and moon respectively.
Deusolgender is a gender that is related to a sun deity in some way. Someone may feel like their gender is based of the concept of sun deity, their gender is influenced by kinning a sun deity, or is influenced by the fact they worship a sun deity, etc. Can be combined with -boy, -girl, -enby, -masculine, or -feminine, etc, for example; deusolmasculine.
Deulunagender is a gender that is related to a moon deity in some way, and can be used as many ways as deusolgender.
The colors used don’t have specific meanings other than based off the aesthetics of the sun and mood, respectively. However, the organization of the stripes have meanings. The colors in the middle are supposed to represent the light from the sun and moon, respectively, and the colors on the very top and bottom represent the color of the sky around the sun and moon. The way deusolgender and deuslunagender have the darkest and lightest colors opposite also represents how the sun deity and moon deity are often counterparts.

Scudcoric: An aesthetigender related to scudcore! It’s related to the beach at night, looking up at the stars with a friend, seeing bright lights cut through the darkness, and laughing until you feel delirious. It also has a sense of large scale to it, like one feels tiny compared to it.

The pink represents femininity, the blue, masculinity, the red, androgyny, the yellow represents completely different names not associated with genders, and the black represents names with 0 connection to anything whatsoever and are completely made up.
In addition, these stripes also represent your gender identity. Pink represents women, women-aligned people, and feminine-aligned people, blue represents men, men-aligned people, and masculine-aligned people, the red represents androgyne people, the yellow represents people with other genders such maverique or otherine, or xenogenders, and lastly, the black represents people with no genders whatsoever. So, for instance, if you were xenogendered with the name “Jules,” and wanted to use this flag, you could say that your gender is represented by the yellow, and that your name is represented by the red.

Since I was just told this by someone…I feel like I need to say this.

If you’ve thought this, you are trans. That pain is dysphoria. You are already a trans girl, and you shouldnt shove your identity into the back corner of your mind, you’ll be so much happier if you go through with transitioning.
On that note. Transitioning is different for everyone. Some people dont take hrt, some people dont get surgeries. If boobs make you dysphoric and you want to be called a girl, guess what? Those things aren’t mutually exclusive. Cis-centric ideals of gender presentation doesn’t mean you are wrong or weird for wanting to present your gender differently. It’s your body, no one should get to tell you what is and isn’t the “correct” way to be trans.

I may have said it from a trans woman perspective, but I absolutely mean it for everyone. If you are cis you dont have to express your gender in a traditional way, just like if you are trans. Societal views on gender expression hurts everyone, and Im glad that this post has reached so many people.

We’re excited to announce International Asexuality Day (IAD), a coordinated worldwide campaign for ace advocacy, celebration, education and solidarity, which will take place annually on April 6th. International Asexuality Day celebrates the full asexual spectrum: asexual, greysexual, demisexual, and all other ace identities, and it’s designed to promote the work of ace advocates, especially in non-anglophone and/or non-Western countries, though everyone is welcome to take part!
