Aliumsexual – Being attracted to two or more genders that are not similar to your own. Falls under the m-spec umbrella. From the Latin alium, meaning “other.”
I was a little hesitant about posting these two, but I thought someone might be able to use them, so why not? I coined these with nonbinary people in mind, please respect that!
Discourse blogs please DNI. No bitchin’ in my kitchen.

Here’s what I understand. (That’s a joke I understand none of it)
(Image description: Four circles, each one surrounded by a bigger circle. In the smallest circle is the word “Binary.” In the next larger circle are the words “Nonbinary/Abinary.” In the next larger circle is the word “Atrinary.” In the outermost circle is the word “Nontrinary.” Next to the circles are two lines that wrap around the last two circles with the word “Anonbinary” next to them)
You got your Western binary. Right. Male and female. Simple enough.
Now go outside the binary. You get the nonbinary, neutral, agender, midgender and demigender spectrums. For some reason, the person who coined Atrinary and Nontrinary said that ‘nonbinary’ are genders that are not masculine or feminine, and only named agender/genderlessness and neutral. I think what they actually meant, was that people can only observe these nonbinary genders from the stance of a binary. Meaning you can’t have a ‘neutral’ without something else to indicate a negative (agender) or a positive (male/female) on its ends. Plus, if you say a gender is nonbinary, you’re still looking at it from a binary perspective. You can have a masculine nonbinary, or an agenderfeminine, but at the end of the day, even on their own, you’re looking at something that just has masculinity, femininity, or neither, or in between (neutral) or midbinary (in the middle).
(Note: It was my understanding all of the above go under nonbinary, but the coiner clarified the difference. So there you go.)
Now throw all that out the window because Mr. Frizzle is taking us on a journey through Genderville.
Atrinary genders are completely outside all that. Those masculine, feminine, neutral and genderless spectrums? Toss them out. They’re useless. Don’t even try to look at them as “not having ____.” You’d still be thinking of them from a binary perspective. Throw that out. Start from the bottom.
Atrinary genders are genders like maverique (a gender with a strong sense of conviction), xenogender (gender concepts that originate from objects, themes, sounds, anything but the traditional idea you’d see gender come from), aporagender (a gender with no alignment but still exists), and iso (a gender that is not cis, but not trans).
So what’s nontrinary?
Nontrinary is the polygender/genderfluid of atrinary genders. So, someone who is polygender but only has atrinary genders. Example, bigender that is half maverique, half xenogender. No matter what, there is no masculine, feminine, neutral, or genderless qualities to these genders.
How do you know if a gender is atrinary, instead of nonbinary?
Honestly that can only be defined by you. The overall point of atrinary, is not being masculine, feminine, neutral, in between, or genderless. (Or -aligned to any of those.) So if the gender has anything to do with the binary including not being part of it, it’s nonbinary.
You wouldn’t call demiandrogyne or proxvir or faesari atrinary. Does that help?
Under the cut is an explanation for atrinary. Cause I know it’s not something that is easy to understand.
Anonbinary covers the entirety of both atrinary and nontrinary. Anonbinary is literally ‘not binary, and not nonbinary.’
This doesn’t help but I did my best and I think it’s better than nothing.
I think it’s unaccurate to assume atrinary and nontrinary are anonbinary. And the difference between nonternary and aternary are the same as the abinary and nonbinary ones.
If you are abinary multigender (having multiple abinary genders) you are still totally abinary/apisgender. The same happens with abinary. Ambonec isn’t abinary nor atrinary, but nonbinary and nontrinary. Neumale and neumaverique are nontrinaries for example, but only neutromaverique has an atrinary gender (maveriquinity). Neutrois is a trinary and an abinary gender-ness.
Pretty much, the person who coined anonbinary never made those specific associations (they just said it was outside both binary and nonbinary, which is fairly illogical unless one means culturally specific genders, but that wasn’t what it was about at all), and trinary vs non-trinary + quaternary vs non-quaternary was coined by arco-pluris without relationship to that.
Arco-pluris interpreted anonbinary as meaning people who are neurodivergent and experience genders that do not make much sense even to themselves, and who have trouble understanding conventional genders (binary or nonbinary), but without being agender themselves. In this sense it would be like maverique having a child with xenine.
Some third-genders and other-genders are anonbinary but not essentially neurodivergent. I like the idea of a maverique xeninity (xenomaverick). Keep in mind aliagender could be anb since it means noncultural specific third-gender. But third-genders can be trinary, Roberta Miranda’s trisexuality is an example (attracted to men, women and travestis). Aporagender is just abinary non-neutral comgender, so it is entirely atrinary, maverique falls under aingender/aporinity/aporainity.
I’m not going by arco’s definition. I’m going by what most people recognize and understand. I’m going by definitions I’ve found, not what arco decides something means. Ae are not the end-all.
I’d prefer people who are of cultural-exclusive genders to choose how to identify themselves.
I still do not understand what you say, arco. I’m sorry. I don’t know what ANB is, I prefer not to use third-gender as it is offensive to some cultures and culture-specific gendered people, and I am going by what aporagender is defined as, not some ‘it is this but not this’ definition.
I’m not going to be replying to these reblogs anymore.
Since you don’t really care about receiving criticism, I will just be entirely honest about what I think is wrong not only with your reply but also this entire community.
Ae coined atrinary and aquaternary, ae should be able to say what those are about and what they’re not about. You misdefined them, that’s on you. “Most people” less than 15 blogs on Tumblr? Hell, if you can’t properly translate someone’s words, don’t steal their concept and their language and make it something anew distinct from what is originally proposed, but also with an unclear timestamp for a recoinage.
Anonbinary should not be defined point blank for as long as the coiner and users don’t decide on trying to come up with a real explanation for what it entails. At least arco-pluris has tried with aer terms, even though ae’s hell unclear due to aer trouble with using casual vocab and the English language in general. For real, I’m tired with this concept of ‘beyond nonbinary’. I’m not supporting an exorsexist identity that is based on misdefinitions of what the label ‘nonbinary’ is supposed to entail.
It’s like when people say that genderfluid is different from nonbinary, or agender is different from nonbinary, or demi is different from gray… Why oh why is the MOGAI community so bad at understanding our own umbrella terms?
And the original offense at third gender came from the “I’m an anti-colonialist pee oh cee, listen to me without any disagreement or piss your pants” radlib types who dominated this discourse back in 2013 and they left this community long ago for believing it is ‘too white’ due to their excessive focus on micro-idpol nonsense. As a Latin American arco is not forced to cherish from the same values as those crypto-ethnonationalist types.
Hell, taking away ‘binarism’ as a language option we had and forcing us to recoin it as exorsexism (a much less popular and catchy term) was an impact of their influence on us and it was basically yet another big semantic exercise in virtue-signalling that achieved nothing in actuality (which is why they mostly gave up and moved on with their lives, like so many antis and truscum who now laugh at microidentities, it’s just that they remained angry at white people, men or whatever due to reading a little bit more and being in more personal jeopardy from the system).
If they have by and large determined that they share nothing with us, why shift our language to make them feel like we share something with them? This is stupid. It’s why I will never use polyam and will keep using poly for polyamory. Tumblr is also extremely asinine in general for making people remake flags and rename identities every time someone is “outed as shitty”. That sort of stuff that doesn’t matter in any meaningful way. It’s just so beyond the pale.
Can we PLEASE stop centering entitled babies? Arco-pluris is villified for being portrayed as one but ae was not the one who “reeeeeeee ur cancelled!!!” someone else for a ridiculous misunderstanding caused by self-centered people ready to jump the gun at any perceived mistake. This stereotype of unforgiving, easily offended, hypercritical and self-cannibalizing community is extremely hurtful for the trans and the nonbinary communities and it gave us a lot of collective stress and trauma just in the past 3 years.
Maybe this isn’t working out. Maybe what they preach here as dogma about how we have to listen to others unquestionably and just nullify our individualities, opinions and language is utter bullshit from people who need to get over themselves.
I swear to Saturn how many times I had to refrain myself from going at every little jerk calling out someone for culturally appropriating AAVE “you utter BUFFOON, LANGUAGE DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY IS A NEOLIBERAL CONCEPT THAT IS HINDERING BEHIND THE ONLY REAL REVOLUTION WE’VE HAD IN THE WEST IN THE LAST 100 YEARS”* for fear of being banned from some soapbox echo chamber pretending to be a safe space that readily ostracized and cut off some of the most vulnerable people in our countries from their support networks…
It made me understand that the right won partially because of the fault of people like this. Because for every “it is not my job to educate you” little pissbaby in this website there are 100.000 neo-Nazis, antivaxxers and conspiracy theorists ready to project their meme ideologies on the ears of a passerby.
In the end both are intellectual deadends anyway, and people wonder why educated atheist men turn into fedora types instead of joining the chorus against denialism of future, progress, science, rationality, tolerance, diversity, environment, historical crimes and the struggle for equality and liberation that the right presents.
We need people to realize that endorsing social justice slogans and making the newest hot takes in which you define something as problematic or oppressive doesn’t make you less of a… normie. And being expected to obey and cater to such normies is as harmful as being expected to obey and cater to them in the “outside world”.
I already said none of this stuff makes any sense anyway. I did my best. Your examples – and arco’s – are still confusing. Suddenly, atrinary is exorsexist? Or abinary? I wasn’t the one that coined it, I wasn’t the one that specified the ‘trinary’ meant nonbinary was neutral and genderless. I’m literally going off Fy’s posts from beyond-mogai.
Fuck it. If it’s this damn confusing, I want nothing to do with it. YOU make a post about this nonsense, then.
Fy didn’t coin those, I guess they just translated it to the best of their abilities
They were coined by arco-pluris, and none of them were defined as anonbinary.
Anonbinary is something completely unrelated created by an anonymous person who sent it to pride-color-schemes a long time ago. It was picked up by someone named Marcus, and a friend of Marcus from Russia (blog got hacked by a spammer) made a thousand different flags and microlabels for anonbinary people and their possible manners of attraction. Anonbinary has always been poorly defined and it was based on a seemingly nonsensical definition of nonbinary.
Arco-pluris coined trinary, atrinary, quaternary and non-quaternary in a completely distinct way, coming from the then recently coined abinary and midbinary. Your stuff was mostly ok, to the exception of saying all of this is anonbinary.
@saturnic-vapour is the one who coined a lot of anonbinary orientations and juvelic terms. ANB=anonbinary. I think op understood how gender arity works (as sets of male, female, gender-neutral/third-gender, quadrinary/quaternary, quinary…). But a-genders and non-genders were misapplied (such as abinary, atrinary, nontrinary, etc.), just it. Leptarity (leptary or leptive arities, -(n)ary terms) is a bit hard for some pals to understand outside binary and nonbinary.
GOLD – Masculine (ara, arum) Ara (singular), Arum (plural) – Gold represents a gender that is, to some degree, masculine in nature. Colors are based on the metal gold. Gender is picked based on this survey.
SILVER – Feminine (aren, argen) Aren (singular), Argen (plural) – Silver represents a gender that is, to some degree, feminine in nature. Colors are based on polished silver, and colors typically associated with femininity. Gender is picked based on this survey.
COPPER – Nonbinary (copa, copen) Copa (singular), Copen (plural) – Copper represents a gender that is, to some degree, nonbinary in nature. Colors are based on raw and polished versions of copper. Gender is picked based on the gold-silver-copper triangle, which is known for use in metallurgy for jewelry purity. (Ignore the female symbol – that’s really the symbol for Copper.)
PLATINUM – Midgender (ilan, ilum) Ilan (singular), Ilum (plural) – Platinum represents a gender that is, to some degree, in between male and female in nature. Examples: Ambonec, androgyne, midgender, half-binary, etc. Colors are based on the traditional color associated as ‘between girl and boy colors,’ as well as faded platinum. Gender is picked based on the first symbol made for platinum, a sun and a moon, to represent that platinum was “white gold” – seen as a combination of silver and gold.
ZINC – Neutral (zum, zincum) Zum (singular), Zincum (plural) – Zinc represents a gender that is, to some degree, neutral in nature. Colors are based on the color normally associated with neutrality (green) as well as unpolished zinc. Gender is picked based on zinc’s ‘neutrality,’ aka how it is the least reactive of the metals.
TITANIUM – Genderless (tan, tanum) Tan (singular), Tanum (plural) – Titanium represents a gender that is, to some degree, genderless in nature. Examples: Agender, genderblank, gendervoid, singularian, etc. Colors are based on the color of the metal, and the colors typically associated with genderlessness. Gender is picked based on titanium’s dark color.
TIN – Questioning (san, santum) San (singular), Santum (plural) – Tin represents a gender that is, to some degree, unknown or confusing or undefinable. Colors are based on the color of the metal when polished, and the color is based on the mix of all other colors – much like how a gender can be confusing, a mixture of inexplainable concepts, and can be muddled and murky. Gender is picked based on the mottled feelings an unknown gender can be.
LEAD – Xenogender (lan, planum) Lan (singular), Planum (plural) – Lead represents a gender that is, to some degree, xenogender or xenine. Colors are based on the color of dark lead, as well as colors most often seen on xenogender flags. Gender is picked based on the unusual characteristics and resistance to making alloys.
ALUMINUM – Fluid (lumi, alumi) Lumi (singular), Alumi (plural) – Aluminum represents a gender that is, to some degree, fluid in nature. Colors are based on the genderfluid flag as well as the color of aluminum. Gender is picked because of the symbol of aluminum, but also because (much like zinc and copper) it bonds with all other metals easily.
NICKEL – Other (niel, kinel) Niel (singular), Kinel (plural) – Nickel represents a gender that is, to some degree, exclusive to a non-Western binary gender. These genders are not accessible to anyone except those members of that culture. Examples: Bariwarmi, femminiello, sekhet, two-spirit, etc. The colors are based on tin’s polish and also on the color for the other gender flag. The gender is picked based on the symbol for nickel, and also to give representation specifically for QPOC and marginalized/oppressed/erased genders.
COBALT – Atrinary (kopa, kopalt) Kopa (singular), Kopalt (plural) – Cobalt represents a gender that is, to some degree, atrinary. Atrinary genders are genders that are outside the binary, but also outside the trinary (masc, fem, neut/agender), and are independent gender concepts defined solely by the person, not by any alignment. Examples: Some xenogenders, some neurogenders, arithmagender, musicgender, bellusgender, etc. The colors are based on the color of cobalt ore. The gender is picked based on how unique cobalt is in color in its raw form.
IRON – Demi- (ira or ferra, irum or ferron) Ira/Ferra (singular), Irum/Ferron (plural) – Iron represents a gender that is, to some degree, demigender. In this definiton, the gender is only partially known, or only partially defined by choice, or one part is left ambiguous by choice. The colors are based on iron’s shades. The gender is picked based on iron’s ability to mix and become stronger with almost any metal.
ANTIMONY – Neurogender (mona, monta) Mona (singular), Monta (plural) – Antimony represents a gender that is, to some degree, affected by the person’s neurodivergency in some way. The colors are based on antimony’s raw ore. The gender is picked based on the symbol for Phi, the letter for psychology studies.
MERCURY – Intersex (idra, hidrangea) Idra (singular), Hidrangea (plural) – Mercury represents a gender that is, to some degree, affected by the person’s intersex status in some way. This gender term is exclusive to those with some intersex disorder, and can only be defined by them. They can have any gender at all; this is only if their intersex disorder affects their gender in some way. The colors are based on mercury’s liquid form. The gender is picked because mercury is very unlike other metals and when combined with them, will make unusual and beautiful alloys, and is unique in that it is a liquid in room temperature, much like the unique qualities and vibrant differences each intersex person experiences.
IMPORTANT EDIT: Because of several typos and discrepancies between my saved draft of these terms and the public post, some corrections to names need to be made. Here is the corrected (hopefully final) version of the singular and plural forms of each term.
ALUMINUM: Lumi (singular), Alumi (plural) ANTIMONY: Aman/Mona (singular), Amun/Montun (plural) COBALT: Koba (singular), Kopum (plural) COPPER: Copa (singular), Copen (plural) GOLD: Ara (singular), Arum (plural) IRON: Ira/Ferra (singular), Irum/Ferrum (plural) LEAD: Ela (singular), Elun (plural) MERCURY: Mera (singular), Meran/Merum (plural) NICKEL: Kel/Nel (singular), Kinel/Nela (plural) PLATINUM: Ila (singular), Ilum (plural) SILVER: Aren (singular), Argen or Atum (plural) TIN: San (singular), Santum (plural) TITANIUM: Tan (singular), Tanum (plural) ZINC: Zum (singular), Zenum (plural)
When sexual and romantic orientations do not ‘match’ (ex: aromantic pansexual, homoromantic bisexual). It can be also known as incongruent attraction, mismatched, mixed or cross-orientation.
What is the difference between crossoriented and split attraction model (SAM)?
Some people mistake crossorientation with split attractions, but the difference is basically on gender-based attraction (or juvelic terminology). You can have different romantic and sexual labels while feeling romantic and sexual attracted to equal gender(s).
For example, you can be demiromantic fraysexual but perioriented if they experience sexual and romantic attraction to the same gender, in the same way biromantic bisexuals could be varioriented if they aren’t romantically attracted to the gender(s) they feel sexual attraction.
Periorientation: When romantic and sexual orientations ‘match’ (ex: polyromantic polysexual, aromantic asexual).
Versexual/versromantic, ansequencesexual, kenaromantic/kenasexual, singuluromantic and singulusexual individuals can be either perioriented or varioriented (definitions here). Feeling only specific attraction to some people but not the other doesn’t mean you are cross-oriented.
Homo- Hetero- (hetromo or homohet): ambi- monoromantic monosexual varioriented individuals or otherwise identifying as hetromantic homosexual or homoromantic hetrosexual.
Heterosexual Homoromantic Flag
Homoromantic Heterosexual: feeling romantic attraction to similar gender(s) and sexual attraction to dissimilar gender(s). This includes lesbromantic straight and gayromantic het.
Heteroromantic Homosexual Flag
Homosexual Heteromantic: romantically attracted to dissimilar gender(s) and and sexually attracted to similar gender(s). This includes lesbsexual wlm, lesbisexual julietian, duaric lesbosexual mascic, lesbiansexual hetroromantic, romeric mlm and gaysexual straightromantic.
ProxySapphic – an identity for someone who considered themselves sexually a lesbian (homosexual for feminine spectrum identities), but their other orientations do not correlate (romantic, sensual, etc.) So they might not feel comfortable identifying as a “lesbian”, but multisexual identities don’t describe their identities either because they’re still monosexual
Bi- Gay: Someone who is bisexual, biromantic, bialterous or otherwise bi- but gay in other forms of attraction; Amplusic individuals fluctuating between bi and gay identities, such as abro-, novo- and -fluid people; or When you’re bi but your attraction leans towards the same gender. As in, you have a stronger attraction to the same gender, or become attracted easier to people of the same gender. They can be homoflexible, manflexible, biflexible or homoflexible.
Demigirlby, demiwomanby, demigalby or demiwomenby: partially nonbinary/enby partially gal/girl/woman; demigirl demienby or partially girlby/womanby/womenby. See also demixirl.
Demienboy Flag
Demienboy, demimanby, demiguyby or demimenby: partially enby/non-binary partially man/boy/guy; demiboy deminonbinary or partially enboy/manby/menby. See also demixoy.
Ventusgender pride flag! This is a gender coined by me, at least to my knowledge.
Ventusgender: A gender that feels vast and spread out, and seems to come and go, like wind.
Ventus comes from the Latin word for wind.
[Image Desc.: a pride flag with five horizontal stripes. the first and fifth stripes are a light sky blue, the second and fourth are a darker blue, and the middle, thin stripe is white. End Image Desc.]
Juproxvira (juxera+proxvir): a gender relative to femache (male-female), but is something separate and entirely on it’s own.
[prox from proximus, Latin adjective for near, “vir” from masculine latin noun, jux from juxta, Latin adverb for near, “era” feminine noun for lady, mistress or goddess]
It can be also known as (pro)juxvira, proxjuvira, (ju)proxvirmina and (pro)juxvirmina, additionally (ju)proxangi and (pro)juxangi. Based on an ask at @mogaiheaven. See also ambonec, nixangi and ambigender.
Metagender: To identify around or beyond a gender. Where your gender identity is almost that gender, but not quite, and also extends beyond that. Imagine that —- is you, and | is the gender identity (and identifying fully with a gender is —-|), then metagender is —- | —-
